"JD and I had a blast. Maya and Sam really helped us maximize our trip by letting us have extra "wanders" and walks."
Mary Ellen Spencer | USA
"It was a great trip! I saw so much of the South Island that we could not do on our own. At times, the hikes were challenging for me. Particularly Nydia Track and Sealy Tarns. I was the slow one in the group! Our terrific guides, Blake and Brynee, were always there to help me meet my goal of finishing! At the same time, looking out for my safety. Couldn't ask for better guides. This was a trip of a lifetime! Thank You!"

Day 1: Moke Lake & Queenstown Hill
Time for sunshine and fresh mountain air! After introductions, we’ll head for our first two hikes of the trip, the beautiful Moke Lake loop track and Queenstown Hill. After meeting your guides and fellow travellers we'll make our way to Moke Lake, a beautiful secluded lake nestled among the Southern Alps just a short drive from Queenstown.
The Moke Lake Loop track is the perfect way to find your feet after your travels with its gently undulating trail and spectacular views. After a picnic lunch at the Lakeside, we'll head back to Queenstown for an afternoon hike on the Queenstown Hill Track.
The well-formed Queenstown Hill Track winds its way up the wooded hillside before emerging above the tree line at the Basket of Dreams. You'll be greeted with spectacular panoramic views of the Whakatipu basin and across the lake towards the iconic Remarkables mountain range.
Day 2: Choice of Hiking options in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park
Today you'll have options to scale your activity level up or down to suit your preference, so you can explore Aoraki/Mt Cook at a pace that's right for you. Whichever hikes you choose to tackle, you'll be rewarded with incredible scenery in this UNESCO World Heritage area under the watchful gaze of Aoraki/Mt Cook – New Zealand's highest peak.
We'll begin the day as a group on the Sealy Tarns Track, enjoying spectacular views over the National Park as we take a steady climb up a well-formed track. You'll be well rewarded for your efforts on arrival to Sealy Tarns, with picture-perfect views of Aoraki/Mt Cook and incredible reflections across the alpine tarns.
From Sealy Tarns, those seeking more of a challenge have the option to continue to Mueller Ridge, where you'll be well into alpine elevations and be rewarded with jaw-dropping views. If you choose not to continue to Mueller Ridge, we'll head back down from Sealy Tarns before enjoying an afternoon on the Tasman Glacier View and Blue Lakes Track.
On the Tasman Glacier View and Blue Lakes Track you'll be treated to spectacular views of the Tasman Glacier, New Zealand's longest glacier, as well as Aoraki/Mt Cook itself. From your vantage point above Tasman Lake, you’ll have excellent views of the glacier's terminal face and giant icebergs floating across the lake.
Day 3: Hike Mount John
Today we’ll make the steady climb up Mount John though forest and tussock to the observatory at the top. As we walk, we’ll look out over 360-degree views across the impressive Mackenzie Basin flats and surrounding mountains and lakes.
Day 4: Swim with Dusky dolphins
Today is a highlight for most of our guests as we head out to sea for an open-water, swimming with dolphins experience. The Dusky Dolphins are well known for their acrobatics and interactive behaviour. The operators of the trips are marine experts, all interaction is carried out in a way that is respectful of the dolphins, and sympathetic to their natural behaviours. You will have the incredible experience of swimming in the ocean surrounded by up to 400 dolphins speeding along around you - it's often described as the most exhilarating and exciting experience of people's lives!
Day 6: Hike Nydia Hut to Duncan Bay
The two multi-day hikes on this trip have been designed for both novice and experienced hikers. If you've never done an multi-day backpacking trip our guides will teach you everything to know and assist you along the way. We'll also provide you with all the gear you need including a larger hiking backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner and hiking poles.
Today, we’ll enjoy the native forest and bird song as we trace the shores of Pelorus Sound on our way back to Duncan Bay.
Day 7: Free day to explore Nelson
Today you’ll have a free day to explore Nelson or take a day trip into Abel Tasman. Our guest services team can help you book a sea kayaking or hiking trip in Abel Tasman.
Day 10: Pororari River Track and Tauranga Bay Seal Colony
We’ll start our day with a short stroll on the Cape Foulwind Walkway. There, you’ll experience the Tasman Sea in all its glory, pounding on the cliffs below as you make your way to the Tauranga Bay Seal Colony, well known for its seal pup rookery.
Our second hike of the day is truly unique. Set amongst dense temperate rainforest with a backdrop of towering limestone cliffs, we’ll follow the Pororari River on the Paparoa Track as it winds its way through the lush undergrowth. Your guides will tell you about the fascinating flora and fauna along the way and maybe even offer you some ‘bush tucker’ to taste if you’re game!
Day 11: Kayak Lake Mapourika & Haast River Jet Boat
Our morning kayak tour on Lake Mapourika will see you take to the water in tandem kayaks for roughly two hours. It’s a mellow paddle out on flat water; the perfect opportunity to relax and soak up the serenity.
This afternoon, we’ll travel to the confluence of the Haast River where we’ll meet our jet boat driver who will whisk us down the coast.
Day 12: Walk the Arrow River Trail
Today we’ll travel to the historic Arrowtown, a quaint old gold-mining settlement just a short drive from Queenstown, where you’ll walk the Arrow River Trail along the Kawarau River, towards the world’s first commercial bungy bridge, which is still in operation today and makes for some great entertainment! The stunning track is a 5km (3.1mi) walk to the Southern Discoveries bridge.
Day 13: Cruise Milford Sound & Hike Routeburn Track to Key Summit
This morning we'll boot up to hike to Key Summit on the famous Routeburn Track. People hiking the entire 3-day route usually finish the Routeburn Track here so you may meet others coming down the hill, but we're going up through the forest, past beautiful waterfalls and into the alpine region for the amazing views from Key Summit. We'll stop for a bit at the top before heading back down to the Divide. We'll be out for about 3 hours in total on this hike.
Day 14: Explore Te Anau & Finish in Queenstown
On the last morning of the trip, you’ll have a chance to explore the lakeside town of Te Anau or head out for one last stunning hike in the area on another of our Great Walks, the Kepler Track. After lunch we’ll make our way back to Queenstown, marvelling at the incredible views en route, before saying our fond farewells at the airport or your accommodation.
