Iconic New Zealand Activities
New Zealand is the perfect place for your ‘once in a lifetime’ holiday. If you have insider knowledge, then our country is a wonderland of incredible experiences. Picture yourself exploring ancient limestone caves filled with galaxies of glow worms or kayaking past rare wildlife in a peaceful lagoon setting. New Zealand offers a vibrant combination of spectacular landscapes, diverse ecosystems and exciting activities that will thrill all lovers of nature and the great outdoors. On any of our five trips you’ll see the very best of New Zealand and many places that most visitors just don’t get to see.
Nile River Glow Worm Caves
The Nile River Glow Worm Caves in Paparoa National Park were created over thousands of years, the enormous caves form an underground labyrinth of limestone sinkholes and caverns, complete with Stalactites, Stalagmites and millions of native New Zealand glow worms. Few caves in the world can offer such an experience! We journey underground to discover a beautiful natural world in a truly untouched state. Two different caving experiences are on offer – you can choose to wear wetsuits and float on a raft down through the caves, or stay dry and explore the upper reaches of the underworld on foot. However you choose to explore them, these subterranean wonders make for another unforgettable adventure in a magical corner of New Zealand.
Kayaking Okarito Lagoon
Okarito is a very special natural wetland on the wild West Coast, the lagoon and its surrounds support over 70 species of birds as well as ancient kahikatea forest! On our ‘World Heritage Walking Tour’ you'll experience Okarito Lagoon in the best way possible – a fully guided two hour kayaking experience. Spot the rare white heron and the royal spoonbill as you explore by paddle. The lagoon’s calm, sheltered waters reflect majestic surroundings, enclosed by enchanting rainforest and shrub lands with grand views to the mighty Southern Alps. This experience is a highlight for lovers of wild, natural places – Okarito Lagoon is a destination that’s very much off the beaten track.
Milford Sound Helicopter Flight
One of New Zealand’s most spectacular natural attractions, Milford Sound is a dramatic fusion of soaring granite cliffs, tumbling waterfalls and lush rainforest. The best way to appreciate the vastness of Milford Sound is with a scenic helicopter flight. After a morning of hiking on the famous Milford Track, we board a helicopter and soar high over Fiordland’s rugged backcountry. Flying out across Milford Sound, you’ll enjoy a bird’s eye view of what was once called the ‘eighth natural wonder of the world’. This one-of-a-kind experience is a very special highlight of the trip,
Fiordland Backcountry Jet Boat
To continue our Fiordland adventure, which has seen us hiking the Milford Track and flying above Milford Sound, we pull out one more stop. After a night in the beautiful Martins bay Lodge, prepare for a jet boat ride through some of the most stunning wilderness in the country. Winding its way through the heart of Fiordland National Park we follow the Hollyford River on its grand passage through a deep, glacial valley, where emerald rainforest tumbles down from the peaks of the Southern Alps. The scenery from the water is breath taking. We also jet out across Lake McKerrow, a lake that was once a fiord, before arriving at the Hollyford Track for our day's hiking in this World Heritage wilderness.
As well as walking New Zealand's best tracks, people who have been with us on our 'World Heritage Walking Tour' often tell us that these 'once-in-a-lifetime' activities are some of their favourite memories of their whole New Zealand trip! All activities are fully guided and included in your tour price.
